She describes these three patterns as Remarkable, Perilous and Toxic. Her intent with these poems is not to over-simplify or to stereotype business leaders or to proffer these patterns of executive behavior as a definitive representation of leadership styles.

Most SCP members like the idea of Emotional Intelligence (EQ). It has been a key focus of mine since 1999. During these 26 years, two things became apparent: (1) EQ works. When clients learn/improve their EQ skills, they become better leaders, get promoted, run organizations better, etc. (2) Most of our colleagues don’t really understand EQ nor have they found systematic, science-based ways to help their coaching clients and organizations develop these key skills.

Our professional role is to help our clients and their organizations succeed. Success is far more likely within a society that functions well. This book contributes to all three goals. The mission of the book is to provide a means for people to retrain their brain so that people can better cope with the modern world, whereas evolution has shaped it to be overly well adapted to primitive times.
