About SCP

Committees and Boards

The following ad hoc and standing committees of the Society of Consulting Psychology (SCP) provide governance and project management for the functions of the society.  To join a committee please contact the current Council Member, you will find a complete list here

Committee on Nominations to APA Committees and Boards

The primary goal of the Committee on Nominations to APA Committees and Boards is to assist those SCP members who are interested in APA governance to learn the ropes (and which ones to skip) in seeking nomination and election to APA Boards and Committees. The secondary goal is to create awareness of opportunities available to SCP members who wish to serve on APA Boards and Committees. The committee distributes a brochure, “Get Your Voice Heard, Play a Part, Get Elected,” on how to be active in APA governance.

Continuing Education Committee

The SCP provides continuing education programs for psychologists. These programs provide the opportunity for professional development opportunities while earning CE credits. The Continuing Education Committee is responsible for overseeing the review and approval of all CE offerings, including workshops and sessions at the annual midwinter conference as well as distance learning programs.  As an APA-approved CE sponsor, every program that is offered by Division 13 is reviewed to ensure that it meets APA standards for continuing education credit.

CPJ Editorial Board

The Editorial Board of Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research helps set policy for the journal, stimulate articles submitted to the journal, review/evaluate articles submitted to the journal, and create/sustain the high quality of the journal.

Fellows Committee

The Fellows Committee assists division members who have made unusal and outstanding contributions to consulting psychology to achieve fellow status in APA. For information on criteria to become a fellow, or on the nomination process itself, please see the Division 13 Fellowship page.

Graduate Student Committee

The Committee of Graduate Student Representatives is concerned with a wide range of matters pertinent to graduate student members of the division, including membership (gaining new student members for the division) and retention; training and development (by connecting students with early career professionals in the field of consulting psychology, as well as with more seasoned professionals); education of consulting psychology (helping students understand what consulting psychology is and what their future career path in this field could be; making the training and education guidelines accessible and understandable to student members); and building community (creating a year-round virtual graduate student community to have more meaningful interactions at the midwinter conferences). Current committee initiatives include two major programs.  The first is the  “Mentor of the Month” series, in which two consultants (not students) will respond to student questions via the virtual forum, The Consulting Psychologist.  Second, to better identify and reach out nationwide to schools offering courses in (or related to) consulting psychology, the “University Ambassador” initiative builds relationships with schools and individuals and encourages them to become a robust part of the division’s student membership.

Membership Committee

The purpose of the Membership Committee is to attract, support, and retain members of the SCP through promoting the society and engaging new members. The committee’s main goals are to 1) help onboard new members seamlessly into the society and help them become engaged active members in the community, 2) liaise with APA membership services and the other APA divisions to share best practices and membership data, and 3) increase the membership of Division 13.

Conference

The SCP Conference Committee is responsible for the production of the annual conference, from conception to delivery. Members of the committee plan programming (including keynotes, workshops and concurrent sessions), develop the schedule of conference and off-site activities, solicit sponsors for the event and help market the conference to current and potential members.

Training and Development Committee

The Training and Development Committee focuses on providing educational opportunities for SCP members, introducing the field of consulting psychology to entering professionals and creating educational collaborations that bring together consulting psychologists across the country and throughout the year.
